Day One: The Studio Is Open
Published: May 13, 2026
We built this for our own table. Tonight, we’re opening the doors.
Dungeon Master Studio is live. No waitlist, no sign-up, no subscription wall blocking the core tools. You show up, you build, your content lives in your browser. That’s the deal.
Here’s what’s in the Studio on day one.
1e → 5.5e Monster Converter
If you’ve ever tried to run an old-school module — Keep on the Borderlands, Tomb of Horrors, anything from the early TSR catalog — you know the problem. The monsters are in 1e descending AC format, the stat blocks are cryptic, and nothing maps cleanly to what 5e players expect.
The Monster Converter solves that. Enter the 1e stats: AC, Hit Dice, actual HP, attacks, damage. The converter handles the rest — ascending AC, 5e ability scores, Challenge Rating using the two-axis DMG method, saving throw conversions, and a complete stat block ready for the table.
It’s not magic. It makes reasonable assumptions and tells you where it’s uncertain. Review the conversion notes, adjust anything that doesn’t match the monster’s lore, and you’re done. Monsters that used to take 20 minutes to convert now take 2.
Free for everyone.
The Grimoire
Your Grimoire is your personal homebrew library. Every monster you convert can be saved to it. Every custom magic item you create lives there. Everything is stored directly in your browser — no server, no sync, no account.
Browse by CR or creature type for monsters. Browse by rarity for items. Search by name. Click anything to see the full details. Star your favorites. Everything is one click away.
Adding Custom Magic Items
The Grimoire ships with a full item editor. Name it, set the type and rarity, mark it as a wondrous item if applicable, write the description, credit the source. Save it. Done. Your homebrew sword of session-ruining consequences is now a permanent part of your library.
Packs
You can bundle entries into Packs and export them as clean JSON. Hand a Pack to your players so they can access the homebrew content you’ve created — items, monsters, whatever you’ve built. Import it, and it’s in their Grimoire. No file formats to learn, no third-party services in the middle.
The Grimoire is free for everyone.
What’s Coming
The converter is the first tool. It won’t be the last. We’re already working on encounter builders, NPC generators, and deeper Foundry VTT integration. The roadmap is shaped by what our Patreon community asks for — not what we think sounds interesting in a pitch deck.
Foundry VTT JSON export is live now for Patreon supporters. If you want to support the Studio and shape what gets built next, we’re on Patreon.
Otherwise: open a tab, start converting monsters. Your data is yours. It always will be.
